Hi my name is Ben Chudley and I am the registered manager here at Nightingales Golden Care.
I have been working in the care industry since 2002 and during that time I have held various roles, but specialised in recruitment and people management, completing my Leadership & Management in Care Award, and a degree in Human Resource Management.
I love working in social care and my most memorable moment was winning the Home Care Registered Manager of the year award at the Great British Home Care Awards in 2014.
I have been the Registered Manager for Nightingales since 2009, and in that time have watched the company grow both in terms of staff/service user numbers, but also, with the quality of care that is delivered. I have overall responsibility for the care that is provided, and the staff that work here. I’m involved in the initial recruitment of staff to ensure they meet the high standards we set, and that we communicate regularly with staff and our service users about updates within the company. I personally handle any complaints or concerns there may be and oversee audits of various parts of the service. I liaise with our regulator (the Care Quality Commission), and the local authorities we work with such as Portsmouth City Council.
Outside of work I have 2 young boys who keep me busy. I enjoy running and have completed 11 marathons as well as various other running challenges. I’m a regular at the Great South run and are always on the lookout for a new challenge.
The best thing about Nightingales is that it is a family business and has the feel of a family. So many of the staff have been with us for several years, and it really is a tight-knit group. Many of the staff have relatives that work for us as well which adds to the family dynamic. My wife, mother, auntie, both sisters and several cousins have worked here over the years.
